New record: 16,000 visitors

The Films for the Earth Festival on 22 September 2017 was a great success. Around 16,000 visitors came to the Environmental Film Festival, which took place on Friday in 18 Swiss cities and Liechtenstein.

    The Programme (All Locations)

    The programme will run simultaneously in all locations. The panel discussion will be broadcasted live from the main stage in Winterthur to all the locations.

    The programme is completed with exhibitions from local sustainability pioneers and free movies to give-away. The evening screenings are the highlight of the festival.

    CHASING CORAL (8:00 PM)

    Coral reefs are disappearing all over the world at unprecedented rates. A team of divers, photographers and scientists set out on an exciting oceanic adventure to discover the causes of this phenomenon and with ground-breaking camera technology, document the change for the whole world to see.     THE BORNEO CASE - BRUNO MANSER LIVES ON (6:00 PM)

    Deforestation of the Malaysian rainforest continues. In opposition stand a group of activists who fight to carry on Bruno Manser's legacy. The film accompanies these activists over a period of five years, showing how they gained international recognition for their tenacity and good research, and how they brought a government to its knees.     PLANET EARTH 2: CITIES (4:00 PM)

    Leopards strolling through the streets of Mumbai and peregrine falcons perching on New York's rooftops. In breathtaking footage, this episode from BBC's Planet Earth II captures for the first time how animals inhabit our cities. Length: 55 minutes, Audio: German. Further information on the film

    DEATH BY DESIGN (12:15 PM)

    These days, life without smartphones, tablets and laptops is almost unimaginable. However, very little is known about how and under what conditions this products are manufactured. This film shows the enormous impact of the electronics industry on health and the environment like no other film before. Length: 73 minutes, Audio: English, Subtitles: German.     SWEATSHOP (2:00 PM)

    Who makes our clothes and under what working conditions? Three Norwegian fashion blogger travel to Cambodia in search of answers. They immerse themselves into the lives of the seamstresses, discover what it means to work with a sewing machine all day and survive on 3 dollars a day.     PLANET EARTH 2: MOUNTAINS (8.30 AM and 10.00 AM)

    Ten years after the release the groundbreaking documentary series «Planet Earth», the BBC is at it again! «Planet Earth II» gets up close and shows its viewers the incredible lives of some of the most outstanding creatures like never before. From the bobcat hunting ducks without getting its paws wet, to grizzly bears with a terrible itch. The «Mountains» episode leaves no one in the cold. Length: 55 minutes, Audio: German.
